This particular example has been in the personal collection of 20th Century Toys founder Phil Bourne since 2020 and has been used solely in the studio. It was featured in Guitar magazine in 2020 and a copy of the magazine comes with the guitar. Also a copy of the original Certificate of Authenticity from ATB Guitars is included to add to the provenance.

Anyone who has experienced the sonic joys of a P-90 on a slab of mahogany will know why these guitars (along with Juniors from the same period) are so revered amongst players and collectors. The two pick up combination offers a great deal of versatility. These are no-nonsense guitars that can deliver a range of great useable tones. Play them clean and they are capable of fat Tele-like twang from the bridge pick up, are full and chimey in the middle position and can produce warm soul and blues tones from the neck pick up. Crank them up and they’ll turn into a raw power tone monster, growly and with plenty of bite, but always retaining clear note definition.

The neck features the highly regarded soft V profile which was prevalent during the 56-57 period. It is relatively chunky with softer shoulders than a chunky C or D profile which together with the low action makes for effortless playing. The original frets are in very good shape with plenty of life left in them.

The overall condition is exceptional for a 60 year old instrument. There are signs of moderate play wear but this guitar has been looked after extremely well. There is a small amount of play wear on the back of the neck around the cowboy chord position, a few small nicks and minor dings around the edges (but nothing that detracts from the excellent+ condition) and some fine lacquer checking. Currently fitted with a MojoAxe compensated wraparound tailpiece with the original included in the case along with an original 50's Gibson brown leather strap.

Completely original, no issues examples in this condition are getting increasingly hard to find. If you’ve been looking for a clean original example with solid provenance then look no further.
