Like it’s elder siblings, the single and double cutaway Les Paul Juniors, the Les Paul/SG Junior has earned its reputation as a pure, primal tone machine amongst players of all levels. The stripped back, no frills simplicity of these guitars belies the range of sounds that can be coaxed from the simple one pick-up, volume and tone combo.
This one dates from early to mid 1963 and features the Les Paul logo on the headstock, a 'lightning bolt' compensated wraparound tailpiece and a fairly chunky tapered neck typical of 1963. At present it is fitted with a MojoAxe compensated for plain G wraparound for more accurate intonation but it comes also with the original wound G compensated tailpiece in the case.
Les Paul/SG Juniors are known to be particularly lively guitars and this one doesn’t disappoint. Acoustically this guitar is loud and resonant and with a focused mid range that gives it a naturally aggressive tone – just like all the best SG Juniors. Coupled with the powerful P-90 this Junior will sing and scream when cranked up, but is also warm and articulate and cleans up nicely when backed off.
This is a collectors grade example and the overall condition is 8.5-9/10. There are no breaks, repairs, touch up or overspray. There are some surface scratches on the back along with a few small nicks and light wear along the bottom edge where it has been played sitting down - see pictures. All solder joints are untouched and the original P-90 pick-up and electronics are as they should be.
Vintage Juniors in this kind of clean, original condition are getting harder to come by. So if you are looking for a good, original example then this one is well worth checking out. This one is competitively priced so probably won't hang around for long.
Comes with a 90's Gibson brown hard shell case with the 'shroud'.
