By 1980, the StingRay had firmly established itself as one of the most distinctive and forward-thinking bass designs on the market. This example, finished in traditional Sunburst, is a strong and honest representation of the model in its pre-Ernie Ball form.

Featuring the standard 42mm nut width neck, this bass offers a familiar P Bass feel which is comfortable and reassuring without feeling cumbersome.

Sonically, it delivers everything you’d expect from a great StingRay. The low end is full and controlled, the mids have a satisfying growl, and there’s plenty of top-end presence available when needed. The active circuitry provides excellent versatility, making it equally at home in funk, rock, pop, and beyond.

Condition is very good and consistent with a well used but well looked after instrument. There are the expected signs of honest play wear — light dings, small nicks, and surface scratches, but nothing outside of what you’d expect from a bass of this vintage.

The original epoxy sealed pre amp circuit has been replaced with a correct spec unsealed version, which is quite a common mod as the original sealed pre amps could be prone to malfunction. With the exception of this the rest of the bass remains original, and the hardware and electronics are all functioning as they should. It plays well, with a comfortable setup and an even response across the fingerboard.

Supplied with a gig bag.

A dependable and characterful example of a pre-Ernie Ball StingRay. Ideal for players seeking that unmistakable tone and feel in a vintage package.
