Introduced in 1990, the Les Paul Classic was conceived as a vintage-inspired interpretation of the 1960 Les Paul Standard, combining traditional Les Paul construction and aesthetics with a notably slim neck profile and a pair of powerful, contemporary-sounding pickups. The result was a distinctive model that retained the appearance and fundamental character of a 1960 Les Paul while offering a more immediate, aggressive tonal response.
The original open-coil Gibson 496R and 500T ceramic humbuckers are an important part of the sonic character of the Les Paul Classic. The 496R delivers a full and powerful neck-pickup sound with plenty of clarity and definition, while the high-output 500T bridge pickup provides strong attack, excellent sustain and more than enough output to overdrive an amp when needed.
The overall condition is near mint and shows little evidence of use for a 30 year old guitar. There are a couple of small lacquer checking lines which are only visible extremely close up. There is also a hairline crack on the pickguard going through the top screw hole which has been repaired and is stable - see pictures. It remains entirely original and has clearly been carefully stored and looked after throughout its life. Finding any 1990s Les Paul as clean as this is unusual, particularly in the less commonly seen Bullion Gold finish.
Comes with the original Gibson hard shell case, complete with its protective interior shroud, together with all of the original paperwork.
