Although most closely associated with the Fender Stratocaster, Hendrix also played several Gibson models. This edition recreates the right-handed 1967 SG Custom that he strung left-handed and played during his appearance on The Dick Cavett Show on 9 September 1969.
Handcrafted at Gibson’s Nashville Custom Shop, the guitar features a mahogany body and set mahogany neck with a long-tenon joint, a ’60s SlimTaper profile and an ebony fingerboard with Custom block inlays. The split diamond headstock inlay, white batwing pickguard and gold hardware capture the unmistakable appointments of a late 1960s SG Custom.
Three ’68 Custom humbuckers provide the model’s distinctive tone, complemented by an ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles and a long Maestro Vibrola. Kluson waffle back tuners and black witch hat knobs complete the period spec, while the Murphy Lab ageing gives the finish and hardware the authentic character of a true vintage instrument.
This example is presented in mint condition, allowing for its intentional Murphy Lab ageing, and comes complete with all certificates, paperwork and case candy. A particularly appealing opportunity for the Hendrix enthusiast or Gibson collector, combining meticulous Custom Shop craftsmanship with the exclusivity of a strictly limited 150 guitar run.
