Based on the left handed Flying V that Hendrix custom ordered directly from Gibson in 1969 and used during the Band of Gypsys period, the guitar became particularly associated with his historic performance at the Isle of Wight Festival on 31 August 1970.
Handcrafted by the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, the guitar features a mahogany body and set mahogany neck with a ’60s slim taper D profile. The bound ebony fingerboard features distinctive split diamond mother of pearl inlays, while the ’67 style headstock and black pickguard capture the appearance of Hendrix’s original instrument.
A pair of Custombuckers provides the classic open and articulate Gibson humbucker tone, controlled by two volume controls, a master tone and a three way selector. An ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles, short Maestro Vibrola, Kluson tuners and black witch hat knobs complete the period correct spec.
The Murphy Lab Aged Ebony finish and naturally tarnished appearance of the aged gold hardware give the guitar the character of a carefully preserved vintage instrument. Combined with the unusual split diamond inlays and gold appointments, it is a particularly striking interpretation of the Flying V design.
Comes with the original Band Of Gypsys hard shell case and outer shipping box, Certificate of Authenticity, paperwork and all case candy. Importantly, the black memorabilia envelope remains factory sealed and unopened. A superb collector grade example combining significant Hendrix provenance, meticulous Custom Shop craftsmanship and the exclusivity of a strictly limited 125 guitar run.
