First introduced in 1958 the ES-335 has become one of the most popular models in Gibson’s history due to its fantastic playability, sonic versatility and timeless style. The model underwent some subtle changes in the early 60’s with slimmer neck profiles and block fretboard inlays replacing the original dot inlays.

The 1963/64 spec 335’s are considered to be among the best with players and collectors, due to the combination of neck profile, pick-ups, stopbar tailpiece and general build quality.

This reissue accurately recreates the features and nuances of a vintage ‘63/64 spec 335 with period correct woods and appointments and a pair of fantastic sounding MHS PAF style humbucker pick ups with vintage style windings and mismatched coils. As to be expected the neck profile is based on the much loved ‘63/64 profile which has a subtle taper as you move up the neck. It is reasonably slim at the first fret gaining depth as you move up the neck. By the time you get to the the 7th fret you are safely in ’59 profile territory. All in all this makes for a very comfortable playing neck that is extremely responsive.

Perhaps the most famous user of ‘63/64 spec ES-335’s was Eric Clapton whose use of this model during his time with Cream was legendary and was to influence countless players over the years. This reissue is true to a Clapton spec cherry finish ES-335.

Talking of the cherry finish, on this reissue it is of the deep un-faded variety and combined with the figured maple top and back (which was a feature used on the 2015 reissues) makes for a stunning and classy looking guitar.

Sonically this ES-335 doesn’t disappoint. The combination of the period correct materials and build quality alongside the MHS PAF style humbuckers delivers all of the classic ES-335 sonic hallmarks – big, fat tone with loads of snap…a sound that will sit well in any mix and lends itself to a wide variety of genres. All three pick-up positions are well balanced and retain clarity at various levels of overdrive, from the thick creamy neck pick up, through the open and full sounding middle position to the bite of the bridge pick up. This really is a great sounding guitar.

This guitar is in near mint condition with just a handful of very light surface scratches and comes with the original hard shell case, Certificate Of Authenticity and pre-pack check card.
